She lost in the 3rd round to Serena Williams. She became the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title defeating Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine in the Hyderabad Open Finals on February 12, 2005.

Sania on Doha Asian Games 2006 According to Doha Asian Games Organizing Committe, Sania Mirza and Leander Paes will play mixed doubles in warm up for their tilt at Doha 2006 gold by playing together at the Asian Hopman Cup in Delhi next week, it was announced on Saturday 4 November. The darling of Indian tennis is hoping she will turn around a disappointing year by winning the mixed doubles tournament with Paes in front of her own fans and then taking gold in Doha the following month.
Starting 22 November, the Asian Hopman Cup will be the perfect build-up to Doha for Mirza and Paes and will see them come up against quality male and female double acts from China, Thailand, Japan, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei.
